I’m Kirsten Alexis, founder and contributor of This Adventure Life. I’m an adventurer and photographer with a passion for exploring our beautiful world, extreme sports, wildlife conservation and inspiring others to live life fearlessly in the pursuit of their wildest dreams. This site has been a dream of mine for the past few years, and this year it has come together to form something I am very proud to call not just my own, but a collective effort and display of the lives of some of the most amazing people I have encountered, on the trail or on the web.
I have always been extremely driven about living the life I have always dreamed of, and refused to settle for anything less. As a freelance designer and photographer, I am fortunate enough to have a dynamic balance and fusion of work and adventure.
I was raised in California on classic rock and the great outdoors. Growing up, I was lucky to have a family that encouraged me to pursue my dreams (no matter how ridiculous) and participate in the arts and outdoor recreation. I loved spending summers in Tahoe and exploring the area by hiking, paddle boarding and jetskiing. In the winters I loved going to the mountains, hitting the slopes or going to Hawaii for some sun and surf.
When I was 12 I underwent spinal fusion surgery for moderate-severe scoliosis. When I was in the hospital and resting at home I watched various documentaries featuring fearless explorers, from scuba diving to mountaineering. This fueled my desire to live a life of adventure, as I learned early that life is too short and precious to waste not doing what you are passionate about.
I am happiest being outdoors and exploring our world, and can usually be found on a hike. I also skydive, snowboard, mountain bike, paddle board, surf, and paraglide. I also love to travel the world, come up with ridiculous adventures (just ask me about my stories), meet new people and try new things. It keeps my ADHD in check (or so I think).
Currently, I spend my time living between California and Canada. I love to travel, and have been to six continents and over thirty countries besides the United States. Some of my favorites have been Iceland, Peru, Nepal, Australia, Mexico, Germany and Canada. As much as I love international travel, one of my goals is to explore the western region of Canada and the United States in more depth.
Some of my most memorable adventure accomplishments and memories have been: summiting Mount Kilimanjaro, trekking in the Himalayas to Everest Base Camp, freediving with whale sharks in Mexico, getting my skydiving license and jumping in some of the most beautiful locations in the US and Canada, learning to paraglide, and backpacking though the Canadian Rockies.
